PERSONAL TRIBUTE TO CHRISTIAN ATSU*

Atsu was a good human being. Very selfless and caring. I would always wake up to messages from him finding out how i was doing, especially when he noticed a long absence from social media. He never turned down a request for an interview.

In 2014, when i was a student journalist at the Royal Netherlands Training Centre (RNTC), Atsu, then at Eredivisie side, Vitesse Arnhem was kind enough to grant me an interview.

Whenever I made trips to Europe and he found out, he would reach out to ask how he could be of help and if I was okay.

On one of such trips to Newcastle, even though he was injured and wasn't going to feature against Arsenal, he made time to come see me, so we go watch the match.

We often shared banter on who was the better player between Ronaldo and Messi backed by stats from Atsu. I never win.

An angel is gone. A true friend is gone. Rest well, 'Junior Messi'. My heart goes out to his family🙏

So sorry @chris_atsu. Forever in our hearts.
