ANCELOTTI: "WE WEREN'T SHARP ENOUGH"

Published on: 30 January 2019

Carlo Ancelotti admitted that Napoli weren't at their best against AC Milan but was quick to dismiss any talk of a crisis at the club. The boss was speaking after the Azzurri's 2-0 defeat at San Sito, which saw their Coppa Italia campaign come to an end.
"We were below par today. On too many occasions we weren't sharp enough tonight. We lost the game because of our lack of focus, which allowed Piatek to score the goals. We struggled to deal with their long balls and counter-attacks. We were 2-0 down after half an hour and had to find a way to unpick a well-drilled backline. Unfortunately, we weren't quick enough in the final third and it was really hard to find a way through."

Will Napoli turn their attentions to the Europa League now? "No, for now our focus remains Serie A. We want to earn our place in next year's Champions League and we can't afford any drop-offs. We have a match against Sampdoria on Saturday – a team in excellent physical and mental shape. We'll start thinking about our next game at the San Paolo tomorrow then we'll deal with each match as it comes.”
