Asamoah Gyan has stated that captain Andre Ayew's red card was harsh after the Black Stars' unexpected 3-2 loss to Comoros and the team's early elimination from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Sunderland player was unable to compete in this year's competition for the first time since 2006.

Ghana finished the Afcon 2021 campaign with one point after going winless in three games.

Speaking as a pundit on Supersport the former Black Stars captain was not happy with the performance of the team throughout the group phase answered a question about Ayew's red card.

It was a harsh decision by the referee,” Gyan lamented.

“He was sliding in, he was trying to score. He got the ball first but unfortunately, he collided with the goalkeeper’s hand,” he added.
