Arsenal manager Wenger: Welbeck ready to fill Aubameyang & Lacazette void

Arsene Wenger envisages Danny Welbeck as a central striker.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (ineligible) and Alexandre Lacazette (injured) unavailable, the 27-year-old will tasked with leading the line in Arsenal's Europa League last-32 first leg clash with Ostersunds.

Welbeck has scored 22 goals from 92 appearances for the Gunners, including five this season. And Wenger is confident the Manchester United academy product is ready to fulfil the vacant role.

"[Playing centrally] is where I prefer him personally and it is where I believe that he has an opportunity to do well," the boss said.

"He had to wait a little bit to get back in the team but that gave him time to work on his fitness and from what I have seen today he is sharper than [for] a long time. He looks very sharp."
