Arsenal Star Still Holding Out for Astronomical Wage Despite Rumoured £9.3m-a-Year Offer

Arsenal have reportedly offered Alexis Sanchez a substantial increase in his wages as contract talks continue - but the club are still someway short of the striker's wage demands.

The Daily Mail claims that the Gunners have offered Sanchez a £9.3m-a-year contract - a deal that works out at around £180,000-a-week - in terms that would see the 27-year-old earn an extra £50,000 every seven days.

However, Sanchez's representatives are determined to squeeze every last penny of a supposed £250,000-a-week contract out of the north London outfit if they are to keep their client at the Emirates.

Talks between the two parties have been ongoing for a number of months now as both sides maintain their poker faces in the hope that the other will eventually cave, but so far no compromise has yet been reached.

With just 18 months left on his current deal with Arsenal, Sanchez's future has become the subject of much speculation as clubs interested in his services start to emerge from the woodwork.

Current Premier League pace setters Chelsea were tentatively linked with a move for their London rivals' main striker, while other reports suggest that clubs in China's Super League would be willing to pay Sanchez an eye watering £400,000-a-week to trade the UK for Asia.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, though, is believed to still be hopeful over persuading the Chilean international to stay and help his side become a dominant force within England's top division once more, though the Frenchman did appear to suggest that he would rather allow Sanchez to leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2018 than sell his prized asset before then.

Meanwhile, the club are growing increasingly confident that playmaker Mesut Ozil will pen a new contract with them as the Germany international also enters the final 18 months of his deal in London.

Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin are also expected to join Hector Bellerin in committing their futures to Arsenal in the coming weeks.
