Arsene Wenger Denies Any Truth in Claims of Explosive Alexis Sanchez Bust-Up

Published on: 05 March 2017

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has denied that there is any truth to the reports concerning Alexis Sanchez allegedly storming out of a training session and later arguing with team-mates in the build up to the Gunners' recent defeat at the hands of Liverpool.

It was claimed that Sanchez left a session early last week and subsequently exchanged 'angry words' with colleagues in the training ground dressing room afterwards.

However, addressing the media at a press conference on Monday lunchtime ahead of this week's return Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, Wenger labelled the story as "completely false".

"Nothing happened," the Frenchman also stated.

Sanchez was dropped to the bench for the trip to Anfield on Saturday, with the speculation that this 'bust-up' was the reason for it. Wenger had already justified his selection by explaining the need for more aerial presence with Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck instead.

The manager seemed to suggest that Sanchez, who was visibly dismayed at being substituted in a game against Swansea in January, was left unhappy at being left out. He doesn't believe the Chilean's behaviour to be any different to players at any other club, though.

"I explained after the game I decided to go for a more direct option, that was the unique reason for my decision," Wenger commented.

"He is a committed player and sometimes with excessive behaviours but you have had that many times in the history of every squad."
