Arsene Wenger Eyeing Top La Liga Job if He Leaves Arsenal in the Summer

Published on: 28 February 2017

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reportedly lined up a move to Real Madrid at the end of the seasonif he brings an end to his long reign at The Emirates.

Wenger has seen his job at Arsenal come under-fire like never before in recent weeks after falling off the pace in the Premier League title race and losing 5-1 to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League tie.

Many Arsenal fans have vented their frustration at Wenger and called for the Frenchmen to leave at the end of the season, by which time it will have been thirteen years since the Gunners last won the league.

Wenger's three-year-deal runs out at the end of the season and the 67-year-oldhas refused to go into detail about his future plans, only saying that he plans to stay in management next season, preferably at Arsenal but failing to rule out a move elsewhere.

The Telegraph (ViaThe Sun) has reported that should Wenger bid farewell to the North London club in the summer, Madrid would be his ideal destination, despite Zinedine Zidane leading the Spanish club to the Champions League title last season and helping them to first place in La Liga this campaign.

Despite his apparent success since taking over at the club in January 2016, Zidane has still faced his critics, with his side's displays proving underwhelming, even in victories. The recent 3-2 win over Villarreal was an example as a nervy Madrid side had to come from 2-0 to win, with the equaliser coming from a controversial penalty decision.

Despite the criticism directed towards Zidane, it remains highly unlikely that the France legend will be replaced by Wenger. Zidane has the highest win percentage of any Madrid manager in history with 72.73%
