Former Ghana national football team captain, Asamoah Gyan, has claimed that the decision to remove him as captain of the Black Stars was not solely made by coach Kwesi Appiah.

Gyan, who is Ghana's all-time leading goalscorer with 51 goals in 107 appearances, expressed his belief that Appiah was influenced by an unnamed individual, describing the decision as one of the coach's biggest mistakes.

"It was never Kwesi Appiah's decision to take the captaincy off me and he knows it. He knows it is one of the biggest mistakes he has made," Gyan told Atinka TV.

Gyan, a legendary figure in Ghanaian football, represented his country in three FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014) and seven Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

He is also the top African goalscorer in World Cup history with six goals. His illustrious career saw him play mostly for UAE club Al Ain FC, with his last professional stint being with Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities before his retirement.
