Gyan in an acceptance speech read on his behalf after being named the Sportsman of the Year at the 2016 Exclusive Men of the Year (EMY) awards held in Accra called on the GJA and NMC to wake up and put a check on "these people and save the country."

His comments come barely a week after a presenter of Accra-based Muntie FM, popularly known as Mugabe accused him of financing the opposition party, NPP as well as importing weapons into the country.

"And the irresponsible jornalists who are attacking him unneccesarily," the speech read by Sammy Anim Addo, the CEO of the Asamoah Gyan foundation said.

"He says, he is telling the GJA and National Medial Commission to wake up and put a check on these people and save this country"
