Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare surprised by Black Stars call up

Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare says he is surprised with his Black Stars invite for the upcoming friendly games against Nigeria and Uganda.

The Porcupine Warriors shot stopper, who has been impressive in the Ghanaian top-flight made cut for the March international break. Asare is the only home-based player to have earned a call up into the national team for the upcoming games.

The West African powerhouse will engage Nigeria and Uganda during the March international break.

Ghana will take on the Super Eagles on March 22 before facing the Cranes of Uganda on March 26 in Morocco.

Otto Addo, who has made a sensational return for a second spell with the Black Stars has released a 26-man squad for the two friendlies.

He named four debutants Frederick Asare, Nathaniel Adjei, Mohammed Diomande and Ibrahim Osman in his squad for the international friendlies.

Reacting to his first call up, the former Accra Lions shot stopper expressed shock whiles he voiced his excitement with his invite.

"I was so surprised when I heard the news. I was asleep and my roommate woke me up with the news. I am very happy to be called up to the Black Stars squad."

The friendly games will be used as a preparatory path for the four time African champions who will face Mali in June in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
