Asante Kotoko players are not serious – Osei Kwame Junior

Published on: 18 April 2024

Former Asante Kotoko defender Osei Kwame Junior has said that the current crop of players at the club are not serious compared to previous years.

The Ghanaian giants are enduring a difficult campaign, having won only one game in 2024.

The Porcupine Warriors has suffered six defeats in their last seven games in the Ghanaian top-flight, picking just a point across the period.

With 33 points, the record Ghana Premier League holders find themselves on 11th position.

Speaking to Kessben FM monitored by Footballghana.com, Osei Kwame called out the players for the teams’ unimpressive performance this season.

“Many players have written their names in the history books of Kotoko and now it’s their time to also add their names. The players should ask themselves, what achievement are they leaving for the club? Can they call themselves legends? They are younger brothers and it’s our duty to let them know that the team they are playing has history just like Real Madrid in Spain”

“It’s a privilege to play for Kotoko and for that matter, they should put in all seriousness when they put on the jersey of the club. They should also know that Kotoko is bigger than their former clubs. The boys aren’t serious and that’s the truth”

“We keep blaming coaches for the woes in Kotoko which is not fair. Even though the coach has a few lapses but that doesn’t mean we should apportion all the blames on the coach. The players don’t put in seriousness when they are playing and that’s embarrassing” he said.

The embattled Kotoko will face leaders Samartex on Sunday before a game against champions Medeama SC.
