Atletico Madrid have sought to open new contract talks with Stefan Savic.
AS says Atletico have approached Savic's camp about kicking off negotiations.
The defender's current deal runs to 2020, but his form this season has convinced Atletico management to seek to upgrade the agreement.
Savic has dislodged Jose Gimenez as a first-choice in coach Diego Simeone's XI.
And Atletico are keen to hand the 26 year-old a pay-rise and also lift his buyout clause.
