Atletico Madrid Chairman Only Wants to Discuss Signing Barcelona Superstar Lionel Messi

Speaking after Atletico Madrid's 2-1 defeat to Barcelona -Chairman Enrique Cerezo didn't want to to be drawn into speculation about his manager and players - instead he made a comment in jest that his club were looking at putting a package together to sign Lionel Messi.

Goal.com reports that instead of discussing the future of his manager Diego Simeone, who is rumoured to be leaving at the end of the season or his star striker Fernando Torres - Cerezo made the claim his attention was on securing a deal for Sunday's match winner.

Cerezo is quoted as saying: "We're trying to bring Messi to Atletico Madrid. The rest are secondary to us."

A Recent breakdown in communication between the Catalan club and the Argentine international has seen an increase in rumours that the former World Player of the Year could be set to leave.

Premier League side Manchester City are said to be interested in signing Messi - which would see him reunited with his old Camp Nou boss Pep Guardiola. While Inter Milan and boyhood club Newell's Old Boys in Argentina could also be in the mix to sign the 29-year-old.

Sunday's result saw Barcelona briefly return to the top of La Liga, before Real Madrid's stunning comeback from 2-0 down saw them claim all three points and return back to the top of the pile.
