I accept CAS ruling in good faith - George Afriyie

Published on: 06 May 2024

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has embraced the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding his disqualification from the 2023 GFA presidential election.

This resulted in GFA President Kurt Okraku running uncontested and securing re-election with a significant majority.

Afriyie's disqualification stemmed from his inability to obtain the necessary endorsements from GFA members.

Despite lodging an appeal, Afriyie's aspirations were shattered when the appeal was dismissed on Monday when the Swiss-based court released its ruling.

The former Ghana FA Veep has now released a statement, saying he accepts the ruling in good faith.

"I have today received the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding my appeal against the Decision of the Elections Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA)."

"The CAS, in their decision, has upheld the decision of the Elections Committee of the GFA. I take the decision in good faith. I express my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported me during this period."
