Augusto Fernandez joined Atletico Madrid in 2016.

Atletico Madrid have sold Augusto Fernandez to Beijing Renhe for an undisclosed fee, the La Liga club announced on Wednesday evening.

The Argentine midfielder moves to the Chinese Super League side two years after joining Atletico from Celta Vigo.

A statement from Atletico read: "Our club has reached an agreement with Chinese side Beijing Renhe for the transfer of Augusto Fernandez. The midfielder passed a medical and signed a contract with the Chinese club."

A former Argentina international, Fernandez's 2016-17 campaign at Atletico was hampered by a torn ACL right knee injury in September 2016.

He made 34 appearances in all competitions for the Rojiblancos.

Atletico's statement added: "A charismatic player is leaving. The midfielder has been an example of fight and dedication towards our colors at all times.

"His compromise on and off the pitch means we are saying today goodbye to a great professional and we wish him the best of luck in his new adventure in China."
