The 20-year-old penned a four-year deal with the Bundesliga side from Scottish champions Celtic.

Frimpong joined Celtic at the start of last season and won the domestic treble of Scottish Premiership, Cup and League Cup.

"Bayer 04 represents a "great opportunity to be able to play in one of the best leagues in Europe," Frimpong told the clubs official website.

"I'm totally looking forward to the Bundesliga and, of course, this club in particular. Bayer 04 Leverkusen have regularly been in the Champions League and the Europa League.

"They demonstrated their ambition on the European stage last year in the two games against Glasgow Rangers," said Frimpong who came through the youth ranks at the English Premier League club Manchester City. "I really like the offensive, fast and technical style of play at Bayer 04 and I hope I can soon help the team."

Eligible to play for the Netherlands, England and Ghana at full international level, Frimpong has thus far turned out for the country of his birth, with whom he is capped up to U20 level.
