Bayer Leverkusen's versatile defender, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, could be on the verge of a highly anticipated return to his former club, Ajax.

Speculation is mounting as reports suggest that the Dutch international is being linked with a potential move back to Amsterdam, where he initially honed his skills and made a name for himself in the world of football.

The former Manchester United player has been linked to a return to Ajax twice in the past. He was mentioned because sporting director Sven Mislintat indicated on Thursday that he wants every position to be double occupied and that he will first look for a new right central defender behind Jurriën Timber.

Fosu-Mensah had suffered from two significant knee ailments, but he was injury-free last season. Fosu-Mensah previously competed in three international games for the Dutch national team.

This season he made eleven appearances in the Bundesliga. The 25-year-old's market value is 3 million euros according to Transfermarkt.
