Following Philipp Lahm's announcement of hisdecision to retire at the end of the season, Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has claimed that Joshua Kimmich would be an excellent replacement for the veteran as the team's first-choice right back next season.
Lahm revealed earlier in the week that he plans to finish his career in June, having made 321 appearances for Bayern since his debut in 2002.
The 33-year old has won an array of trophies at the club and also has 113 caps for Germany in what has been a glittering career.
As the club prepares for a future without Lahm, the Bayern chairman has stated his belief in the potential of 22-year old Joshua Kimmich even though the youngster prefers to play in midfield.
"Joshua Kimmich is the right-back of the German national team at the moment," Rummenigge told Bild. "And Joshua is a Bayern player...
"I think he already showed at Euro 2016 that he has a lot of quality and that he can play at right-back.Of course, it is Carlo Ancelotti's decision in the end whether he uses him in midfield or as a right back.

"But I think Joshua is clearly an option for us in that position, even if it is not easy to replace Lahm."
Kimmich has already made 39 appearances for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2015 and is highly-rated in Carlo Ancelloti's future plans.
He already has 11 caps for Germany, having also impressed at the 2016 European Championships, where Germany went out in the semi-finals to France.
