Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer facing time out after reinjuring foot in training

Manuel Neuer first broke a bone in his foot last season against Real Madrid.

Manuel Neuer has been ruled out for Bayern Munich's trip to Schalke on Tuesday and could face a longer spell on the sidelines with a foot injury, according to German newspaper Bild.

Bayern announced on their website that Neuer on Monday "injured his left foot in training and will miss match at FC Schalke 04. There will be a final examination on Tuesday."

The Germany goalkeeper already missed the run-in to the season with a broken metatarsal in the same foot, suffered during Bayern's Champions League quarterfinal second-leg defeat to Real Madrid last season.

Neuer returned between the Bayern posts on matchday two at Werder Bremen last month.

But according to Bild, Neuer could now face another months-long stay on the sidelines as the 31-year-old is expected to undergo surgery.

Former Stuttgart keeper Sven Ulreich is the backup option for Neuer. The 29-year-old has so far played in 12 competitive matches for Bayern since joining the club in 2015.

He has conceded 13 goals in those games, winning eight, drawing one and losing three, including a 3-2 home defeat in the DFB Pokal semifinal to current Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund.
