Rafa Benitez was pleased with the way his side played against Wolfsburg on Wednesday night.
The Magpies ran out 3-1 winners against the Bundesliga side, with goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic, Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu proving to be the difference.
"We've had more time on the pitch and it was fine," said Mitrovic.
"We scored more goals and made some chances, and didn't give them chances, so it was a little more positive.
"We aren't far away."
