Simba had to work hard for all three points on Saturday when they beat Namungo 3-1 in a rescheduled match at Majaliwa Stadium in Ruangwa, scoring three goals with 12 minutes remaining to go three points ahead at the top of the 18-team table.

Nzigamasabo Styve's shot bounced past defender Pascal Wawa and beat goalkeeper Aishi Manula with ease in the 21st minute, putting the defending champions in trouble.

Simba had to wait until the second half to mount a comeback, with striker Chris Mugalu opening the scoring in the 78th minute, before captain Bocco made it 2-1 in the 83rd minute and Ghanaian forward Bernard Morrison clinched the victory with a well-executed strike in the 87th minute.

Simba entered the match level on 61 points with rival Yanga SC at the top of the 18-team table and knew they needed to win their postponed encounter to start closing the gap on the pursuing pack.

Simba will meet Ruvu Shooting at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on June 3.
