Black Queens bonuses to be paid before Zambia clash - Gifty Oware-Mensah

Gifty Oware-Mensah, Chairperson of the Black Queens Management Committee, has assured the players will receive their overdue bonuses before their upcoming game against Zambia.

The two-legged Olympic Games qualifiers, with the first match scheduled for February 23, will see Ghana vying for its debut Olympic qualification after successfully re-entering the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Despite their recent success, the players are yet to receive the promised bonuses from the qualifiers, with each player reportedly owed between $7,500 and $10,000.

Oware-Mensah disclosed in an interview with Joy Sports that discussions have taken place between relevant stakeholders.

"The Black Queens have been waiting for a while to receive their bonuses. The difference is that we are still owing Black Queens and Black Princesses. However, we have engaged them, including myself, GFA President Kurt Okraku, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. They have given us assurances that the funds will be disbursed to the players before our next match. We are optimistic and trust in the commitments made by the Ministry," she said.

Under the leadership of head coach Nora Hauptle, appointed in 2023, the Black Queens have won all but one of their games.
