Black Stars players bagged over $1m in winning bonuses despite Ghana’s disappointing campaign at the 2019 African Cup of nations.

The figures were revealed when the Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah met Parliament on Wednesday to discuss the country’s participation at the 24-team tournament in Egypt.

Per the breakdown provided by Mr Asiamah, a total of 1,489,432 was spent on winning bonuses for the 23-man squad of players, the technical team and additional winning bonus to additional technical staff.

The players received a total of $965,405.00, the technical team got $347,027.00 and the additional technical staff bagged $177,000.00

It will be recalled that the Black Stars only won one out of the four matches they played at the continental showpiece.

Kwesi Appiah’s men started their campaign with back to draws against Benin (2-2) and Cameroon (0-0).

The four-time winners guaranteed qualification to the knockout stage after beating Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in their final Group game.

However, Ghana were booted out of the tournament after losing 5-4 on penalties to Tunisia in the round of 16 stage after playing out a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes.

The last 16 eviction is the country’s worst performance in the competition since 2006.
