Bolton Wanderers 1-0 Birmingham City

Published on: 22 August 2018

Will Buckley scored his first goal of the season to give Bolton Wanderers victory

A Will Buckley goal saw Bolton Wanderers continue their unbeaten start to the Championship season with victory against Birmingham City.

The winger got the last touch from Sammy Ameobi's probing cross after an uneventful 73 minutes.

Garry Monk's side had chances to score, with Wanderers keeper Ben Alnwick tested by Jota and Omar Bogle.

But Bolton stretched their unbeaten run to five games, while Birmingham are still to win this season.

    Relive Wednesday's EFL action

Phil Parkinson's side went into the game having not scored a single goal in any of their past five league matches against Birmingham.

That looked set to continue as Wanderers struggled to find a way past Birmingham's defence and goalkeeper Lee Camp.

However, Buckley snatched victory with his first strike of the season after the ball bounced off him last inside the penalty area.

Birmingham could not find a way back into the game, and the result took Bolton to 10 points, level with Middlesbrough and Leeds at the top of the table.
