Borriello calls Cassano to tempt him into UD Ibiza move

Marco Borriello is trying to get Antonio Cassano to join him on his latest adventure after the 36-year-old striker joined Spanish third-tier side UD Ibiza this week.

Cassano, who has not played a competitive match since May 2016 when he last took to the field in a Derby della Lanterna for Sampdoria against Genoa, has also been linked with a Serie A return with Bologna reportedly considering bringing him in on a free transfer.

Corriere della Sera have revealed that Borriello called Cassano in an attempt to persuade him to join him on the Balearic island and the former Real Madrid star did not rule out the move, responding by saying that he will consider it.

Borriello’s move to Ibiza has received a lot of media attention and is one that would appear to suit his lifestyle, while some have been critical of the striker and have questioned his motives behind the move, but the ex-SPAL man insists he is not there for the money.

“It is an important project here,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I made history in Italy and now I want to do the same in Spain.

“I had offers from Serie A and Serie B but it was not about the money, the conditions here will allow me to do well.”

UD Ibiza themselves have not confirmed the speculation linking them with a move for Cassano.
