Bournemouth Manager Eddie Howe Reveals Why He Has Banned Himself From Watching Match of the Day

Bournemouth head coach Eddie Howe has revealed the reason why he has banned himself from watching highlights of his team on the BBC's Match of the Day programme.

Having seen his Cherries' side claim their first win of 2017 with victory over West Ham on Saturday, many would have forgiven the 39-year-old for spending the hours after the game relaxing in front of the TV watching highlights of the match.

However, when speaking to theMail, Howe has explained that he simply opts to take a stroll along the beach, rather than choosing towatch Match of the Day, as he feels it can be unhealthy for anyone involved in the professional game.

He said: "I won't watch Match of the Day. I have banned myself from doing so. It's just that you're then consumed with football on an unhealthy level.

"If you're going to watch it when you win, then you must watch it when you lose, and vice versa.

"I celebrate in my unique way. Maybe with a walk down the beach or a cup of tea and a biscuit. That will be about it. Cup of tea. No sugar."

When pressed on whether he had ever watched the BBC's highlights show and listened to the reaction of their pundits, Howe further elaborated on his theory of an 'unhealthy obsession' and explained why he chose not to take in the pundit's' views.

The Bournemouth boss added: "I tend to watch the game myself, without any opinions on top.

"Nothing to do with anyone's wardrobe. I take myself away from it. I think it's unhealthy to take in things like that. The only person that truly matters, I believe, is yourself."

Bournemouth's last-gasp win over West Ham means they have now opened up a six-point gap between themselves and the bottom three, as Howe looks for his players to regain focus ahead of another crucial home fixture with fellow strugglers Swansea City this weekend.
