Brighton and Southampton finished all-square at 1-1 from their south coast showdown on Sunday.
Glenn Murray's third goal in two games earned Brighton a point.
The 34-year-old, fresh from dispatching West Ham with a double nine days ago, pounced in the second half to secure a 1-1 draw for the hosts. Steven Davis had given Southampton an early lead.
Seagulls boss Chris Hughton remarked afterwards: "We deserve to be there (mid-table), but by far the most important thing is that there is a lot more work to be done.
"We know in this division you can lose three, four or five games on the spin and we have to guard against that."
