Caceres: I want to continue my curious Juventus scoring streak

Published on: 29 January 2019

After signing for Juventus for the third time in his career, Martin Caceres is eyeing the interesting record of scoring for the club on a third different ‘debut’.

In August 2009, the 31-year-old signed for the Bianconeri for the first time and started his career in the perfect fashion with a goal on his debut in a 2-0 win over Lazio and when he rejoined from Sevilla in January 2012, he did it again by netting twice this time in a 2-1 Coppa Italia win over AC Milan.

His return to the club from Lazio was confirmed on Tuesday and he could be in line to make his third debut at Atalanta in the Coppa Italia, where he will aim to find the scoresheet at the first time of asking yet again.

“I’m very happy to be back as this has always been home. When I received the offer to return, I immediately thought back to all of my previous happy memories of playing here,” he told Juventus TV.

“This is the jersey that I love and there’s no two without three. It is also the second time that I’ve arrived in January. Also every time that I’ve joined, I’ve scored on my debut and they were all important goals so I hope that it goes the same way this time!”

The Uruguayan also revealed that he has been impressed from afar in watching how both Cristiano Ronaldo and his former teammates as a whole have conducted themselves of late.

“With Ronaldo, his career speaks for itself. He is continuing to demonstrate that here and even in Italian football, he is showing what a champion he is,” stated the former Verona defender.

“This team too, despite everything that they have won, do not want to stop. That’s the feeling I’ve also gotten from them by watching from the outside over the last two-and-a-half years.”
