CAF Champions League: Al Ahly coach Marcel Kohler blames poor pitch for club’s wastefulness against Medeama

Al Ahly coach Marcel Kohler has attributed his outfit inability to convert clear-cut chances against Medeama in the CAF Champions League group stage opener to the poor state of the Al Salam Stadium.

The Egyptian giants has resorted to the Al Salam Stadium due to the ongoing renovation works at the Cairo international stadium.

The reigning Champions League winners defeated Ghana champions 3-0 at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo to begin the group stage in style.

The Yellow and Mauves held Al Ahly to a goalless draw in the first half of the game but the Egyptian made a strong case for themselves in the second half after cruising to a convincing win.

Goals from Kahraba, Hussein El Shahat and Salah Mohsen ensured Al Ahly secure maximum points at the end of the game.

After the game, the Swiss trainer attributed his outfit wastefulness in front of goal to the poor state of the Al Salam Stadium.

"The problem of wasting opportunities has many reasons, including poor pitch. Al Salam Stadium is not comparable to Cairo Stadium. It is small details that make a difference. Substitutions are intended to increase offensive pressure to score goals."

Al Ahly will face Young Africans in their second group game of the CAF elite competition this weekend.
