CAF Confederation Cup: We deserved to qualify ahead of Dreams FC – Zamalek coach Jose Gomez

Zamalek coach Jose Gomez says his outfit deserved to secure qualification to the finals over Dreams FC in the CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

The Egyptian powerhouse hammered the Still Believe lads in the second leg played at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday to progress to the finals of the competition.

The Ghana FA Cup holders went into the return leg with the advantage after holding the Egyptian powerhouse to a pulsating goalless draw in the first leg played at the Cairo International Stadium.

But the Ghanaian outfits hopes of reaching the finals dashed after succumbing to a 3-0 defeat on home turf.

Goals from Hamza Mathlouthi, Samson Akinyoola and Mostafa Shalaby ensured Zamalek progress 3-0 on aggregate.

"We worked hard and came to win, and I said before the match that when everything is under our control, we can perform at the best level possible for us," he said after the game.

"The two wingers and full-backs positioned themselves well and helped the team in the defensive situation, so we were strong defensively," he added.

"I saw a lot of different things from the start. We created spaces and deserved to win."

Zamalek will now lock horns with Moroccan outfit RS Berkane in the finals of the competition.
