The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has refuted reports of the postponement of AFCON to 2022 stating that it is too early to do such discussions.

It has been widely reported that CAF will postpone the competition to 2022 due to the coronavirus but the President have poured cold water on the issue.

"I do not wish to postpone the African Cup of Nations due to be held in Cameroon in 2021, and I do not want to talk about matters that have not happened and we have not touched upon until now," he told the press.

"The priority now is to preserve the health of the players and not to play football matches and early talk about any activities now."

"It is also too early to talk about the date of the resumption of African competitions before consulting with local federations and the international federation on possible solutions for the return of competitions again."

The CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup have been postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus.
