Callum Hudson-Odoi returns to Chelsea after lackluster loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen

Published on: 22 May 2023

English-born Ghanaian winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has made his return to Chelsea Football Club after spending the 2022-2023 season on loan at Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

Hudson-Odoi's move to Leverkusen came as a surprise to some, as he was heavily linked with a potential transfer to Newcastle United during the summer transfer window.

Unfortunately, the 22-year-old's time at Leverkusen was far from successful. Throughout the season, he managed to score just one goal and provide one assist in 21 appearances across all competitions.

A combination of injuries and poor form hindered his progress, resulting in him making only one appearance in the Bundesliga since February. This lone appearance came in a brief seven-minute cameo against Schalke at the start of April.

With just one year remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, Hudson-Odoi's future at Chelsea remains uncertain. It is widely expected that he will depart the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The upcoming months will undoubtedly be crucial for Hudson-Odoi as he aims to make significant strides in his career.
