Published on: 17 January 2023

Mozambique had to labour on Tuesday afternoon to record their first-ever win at the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament.

Today, the national team of the country locked horns with Libya in a second Group A match of the 2022 CHAN tournament currently ongoing in Algeria.

Although Mozambique would concede first, they managed to come from behind to secure an important victory.

In the game, an own goal from Francisco Muchanga in the 23rd minute handed Libya the lead after a close contest in the early parts of the game.

With no other goals in the first half, Mozambique returned from recess to put up a top performance.

For their impressive efforts, the team was rewarded in the 74th minute when Melque Alexander scored to restore parity to the game.

Six minutes later, substitute Nene scored with a powerful header to give Mozambique the lead for the first time in the game.

With the team continuing to pile pressure on Libya, a third goal came in the 84th minute when Pachoio Lau Ha King also got his name on the scoresheet.

Despite an injury-time strike from Anis Saltou, it could not save Libya from a defeat as Mozambique sealed a 3-2 win at the end of the 90 minutes.
