Chaos Ensues at Old Trafford as Ibrahimovic Elbows Tyrone Mings After Brutal Head Stamp

Published on: 03 March 2017

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings have been involved in a violent clash at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The Swedish forward was seen elbowing the 23-year-old just minutes after Mings appeared to stamp on his head following a crunching tackle on United captain Wayne Rooney.

Somewhat bizarrely refereeKevin Friend let both players escape without punishment, but he did show Bournemouth's Andrew Surman a red-card after he picked up a second booking for a push on Ibrahimovic.

Friend had a lengthy discussion with both Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney after the incident, eventually deciding to keep his cards in his pocket despite what looked like two red-card offences.

Bournemouth had just got back into the game minutes before Surman's dismissal,Joshua King's penalty equalling the scores at 1-1.

United had gone ahead in the 23rd minute through defender Marcos Rojo, who tapped in a low cross from full-back Antonio Valencia.

Ibrahimovic had another contentious moment in the second-half as he saw his penalty saved by Bournemouth goalkeeperArtur Boruc.

Jose Mourinho's side needed a win to leapfrog Liverpool and Arsenal into fourth, with both sides meeting at Anfield later on Saturday, but they simply couldn't score in the second-half, leaving the scores at 1-1.
