Charlton boss Ben Garner heaps praise on 'penalty hero' Joe Wollacott

Charlton Athletic manager Ben Garner has lauded Ghana goalkeeper Joe Wollacott following his heroics in the penalty-shootout victory over Stevenage in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old was the hero for the Addicks as the League One side beat Stevenage 5-4 on penalties to advance to the last 16 stage of the competition.

Wollacott has made 20 appearances for Charlton this season across all competitions, kept five clean sheets and conceded 23 goals

"The standard of penalties was absolutely brilliant," said Garner as quoted by the club's official website.

"I don’t remember seeing five better than that in a penalty shootout. It is a great save from JoJo to top it all off.

"A lot of the lads practise penalties all the time. You go into a shootout thinking ‘are they going to do what they normally do?’, and they did. They showed great composure, great confidence and really good technique."

Wollacott has been named in Ghana's final squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
