Chelsea Among Clubs Linked With England Star After New Contract Talks Put on Hold

Published on: 13 November 2016

A number of the Premier League's top teams have gone on high alert this week, with the news that Tottenham have halted contract talks with star striker Harry Kane as the two parties continue to be at loggerheads over the 23-year-old's worth.

Spurs' strict wage structure means that the Premier League Golden Boot winner currently earns just £60,000-a-week at White Hart Lane - less than some of the club's less established players, like summer signing Moussa Sissoko.

TheSunreport that Chelsea are among the clubs keeping a close eye on Kane's situation, with the shot-happy forward unhappy with earning a reported £35,000-a-week less than new boy Sissoko (among others).

With front-man Diego Costa constantly being linked with a move back to Madrid to join up with former club Atletico, Kane would be one of the few players with Premier League experience who could conceivably come in and produce to the same high level as the Spain international.

Manchester United and rivals Manchester City are also said to be keeping Kane on their respective radars as the situation develops - with Spurs continuing their recent trend of struggling to agree terms with their most crucial stars.

The newspaper claims that Kane's loyalty is being tested by the lowball offers, despite his repeated insistence over recent months that he sees his long-term future at White Hart Lane.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is another who is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, with Jan Vertonghen saying of the Frenchman:"I hope Hugo is the next one to agree a new deal. It's important to keep this team together, especially quality players like him.

"He is our captain and a very important member of the squad. I don't know what is going on right now (with contract negotiations) but I hope he will be at Tottenham for many years."
