Chris Hughton has assured to turn things around for Black Stars – Henry Asante Twum

Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has revealed that Chris Hughton has assured to improve the performance of the Black Stars.

The former Premier League coach who was appointed as Otto Addo’s successor in March earlier this year had an unbeaten start after five games.

Hughton steered Ghana’s qualification to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.

However, the 64-year-old’s unbeaten start has been ended after a 2-0 defeat to Mexico and a 4-0 defeat to the US Men’s national team in international friendly games in October.

Following the humiliating performance, the Irish-born gaffer has come under pressure with several football fans calling for his exit.

However, Asante Twum in an interview disclosed that after the October friendly games, Hughton has assured to turn things around ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“Sometimes you might not play better but you might win but if you play well and also lose which has become the trend, it becomes a major worry so he is worried but he (Chris Hughton) has assured that he will do whatever it takes to turn things around,” he told Asempa FM.

“I like the fact that he was bold to say that he is still the right man for the job after the loss against USA.

“We are very hopeful but you cannot just be hopeful you have to walk the talk which means you have to put up a good performance on the pitch to win from the team,” he added.

The Black Stars will face Madagascar and Comoros in the first two games of the World Cup qualifiers in November before the AFCON in January.
