Former Newcastle United manager, Chris Hughton is targeting a pair of Premier League stars as he closes in on becoming the new Black Stars coach.
Hughton for the past weeks has been strongly linked to the vacant job following the sacking of Milovan Rajevac last month.
Milovan Rajevac was sacked as manager of the national team following their dismal performance at the just ended 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON].
Ghana were eliminated early on, finishing bottom of Group C after only managing a single point against Gabon, opening the door for Hughton to step into international management.
After holding talks with the presidency and the Sports Ministry, Hughton is set to be named the boss of the national team.
The 63-year-old faced competition for the role in Borussia Dortmund assistant boss Otto Addo, but reports which emerged last week stated ‘a high ranking member of the government is pushing for the appointment’ of Hughton.
Hughton is reportedly targeting a number of Premier League stars, including Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi and Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey, in the hopes of convincing them to declare for Ghana.
