Chris Hughton to be unveiled in Kumasi as new Black Stars coach - Reports

Chris Hughton is scheduled to be unveiled in Kumasi as the new Black Stars head coach, Footballghana.com understands.

The former Brighton and Tottenham boss has been appointed as the new manager for the senior national team but he is yet to be unveiled.

Hughton will be assisted by George Boateng and Didi Dramani. He replaced Otto Addo who left his role following Ghana's early exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

With the Black Stars scheduled to play Angola in a doubleheader in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] later this month, the 64-year-old will be unveiled days before the game at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association [GFA], Henry Asante Twum speaking to 3Sports days ago revealed that Hughton's unveiling has been delayed due to the death of his father.

“Chris had to stay in the UK because he lost his dad and needed time with his family and plan the burial service. That’s why he’s not been to Ghana yet," he said.

“We expect Chris in Ghana next week if everything goes according to plan. We are constantly engaging on his unveiling, media engagement, and build-up to the games.

“He is working, Chris and his assistants will be unveiled together. When he arrives we will communicate the date and venue for his unveiling and then use that as part of the build-up to the game against Angola. There will also be squad announcements, details of the contract, and the targets set for the new technical team," he added.

Footballghana.com also understand that the squad for the two games will be announced before Hughton will be unveiled.

The contract details f Chris Hughton and his assistants will also be disclosed by the country's football governing body.

Ghana will play Angola in the Kumasi on March 23 before travelling to Luanda for the reverse fixture four days later.

The Black Stars are joint top of Group E alongside Angola with both teams with four points after two games.
