A government spokesman, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah has said Christian Atsu is likely to get a state burial.

Following a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria two weeks ago, Atsu was discovered dead after 12 days of intensive search.

His remains arrived in the country on Sunday with the one-week conversation scheduled for March 4.

However, Palgrave speaking on Matro TV's Good Morning Ghana extended government’s condolences to the grieving wife, kids, extended family and the football fraternity stressing that “government is in full support of all their funeral plans and arrangements.”

A co-panellist and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed chipped in that government needed to give Atsu a state burial because of the circumstances surrounding his passing.

Palgrave responded: “Government is working in line with that, I think it is a unilateral decision, government is working in line with that.”

Atsu is famously remembered for winning the best player at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON].

Before that feast, he was part of the Black Stars squad that featured at the 2014 Mundial in Brazil.

Several former Black Stars players have visited the family of the late Christian Atsu to console them.
