Claudio Ranieri Considers Appealing Controversial Jamie Vardy Red Card Following 2-2 Stoke Draw

Claudio Ranieri has suggested that he is open to the idea of appealing the red card picked up by Jamie Vardy in Leicester's comeback to draw 2-2 with Stoke.

When asked whether or not he intends to appeal the red card, the Italian said:"I don't know, let me think, if it is possible, yes," he replied. "He wants to challenge and get the ball, not make a foul.

I don't know if he touched the player, but he touched the ball. I was angry (at the referee) because I saw my players fight and there were so many yellow cards, but it was a normal battle in the Premier League."

The cards brandished in that game mean that Leicester will be without Robert Huth and Christian Fuchs through suspension - bans that they cannot appeal - as well as Vardy unless the Foxes successfully appeal the card.

Ranieri continued:At the start we were very dangerous and after the sending off everything changed, my players were so nervous."

Asked if Vardy deserved to be sent off, Ranieri added: One manager says yes, one says no. If you listen to me I say ˜no', if you listen to Mark Hughes he says ˜yes'.

During half-time we spoke a lot and had to believe something good was possible. I am always positive.

It could be a turning point today, but we have to wait and see the next matches, Ranieri said. His Leicester side face a Boxing Day clash at home to Everton followed by another home game to West Ham on New Year's Eve.

The first-halfended with the usually relaxed Italian being restrained by Kasper Schmeichel as he ranted at referee, Craig Pawson, and appeared to point at the official in an attempt to goad the fans into hurling criticism.

Ranieri insisted that he was pointing at the pitch, as opposed to at Pawson, saying: "I just wanted to show to our fans, our players, to ˜keep going, stay with us'."
