Clubs and NSA should ensure people adhere to COVID-19 protocols- Dr. Prince Pambo

Dr. Prince Pambo, a member of the CAF medical committee, has tasked clubs and the National Sports Authority to ensure that fans adhere to COVID-19 protocols.

Currently, 25% of the stadium capacity are allowed to be used by fans but there have been some problems. Hearts of Oak and Medeama have been banned for not enforcing the protocols in stadiums so far this season.

Pambo, who gave some updates on the new variant of the virus, advised the relevant authorities to enforce the needed protocols.

"Averagely, Ghana is recording about 700 COVID cases on a daily basis and we have some reports from the sequencing centre in the University of Ghana telling us that close to 90% of the cases in the country are probably the UK variants of the virus. This particular variant is 60% more transmissible than the previous variant," he stated on Joy FM.

"We have been talking about people getting crowded in stadiums. We have been talking about people who have to be reminded to wear their masks. I feel this whole COVID fight has gotten to the point of individuals just learning to be responsible. If for any reason, people are not learning to be responsible, that is when authorities will step in. I think the enforcement for people to follow protocols [in stadiums] is a bit relaxed. This falls on clubs and the NSA to ensure that people adhere to the protocols. If it goes on, the government will be forced to pull the trigger again."
