The 64-year-old took over from Johnson Smith who was a stop-gap coach at the club following the exit of coach Maxwell Konadu.

Coach Barreto was Black Stars head coach between 2003 and 2004 and was in charge of the Black Meteors during their last Olympic campaign in 2004.

He will be in the dugout for Kotoko’s next Ghana Premier League fixture against Eleven Wonders when the second round resumes.

"Mariano Barreto is a coach who ensures the physical well-being of his players. He’s hard-working and doesn’t entertain laziness," Amoako told Sikka Sports.

"His personal relationship is one that is very cordial."

"He will have a positive impact on the Kotoko team," he added.
