Colombia's James Rodriguez Undergoes Revolutionary Treatment on Calf Injury in Bid to Face Uruguay

Published on: 04 October 2016

James Rodriguez remains hopeful of featuring for Colombia during the international break after undergoing revolutionary treatment on a calf injury at Real Madrid.

The Los Blancos midfielder was pictured using a hyperbaric chamber, by Spanish newspaper Marca, as he looks to recover in time for his national side's World Cup qualifying match against Uruguay on October 11.

The treatment, which has been used by fellow Madrid first-team stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Keylor Navas in the past, helps to accelerate the recovery process by increasing the amount of red blood cells in the body to deliver more oxygen to the muscle to repair it within a shorter time period.

Rodriguez is not believed to have suffered a muscle tear after sustaining the injury, but is set to be sidelined for a period between eight and 10 days, ensuring that any potential return in time to face Uruguay will be touch and go.

The playmaker picked up the slight strain before Madrid's 1-1 La Liga draw with Eibar on Sunday and was forced to miss the clash at the Bernabeu.

Real had initially feared that the 25-year-old would be unavailable for an extended period of time, but scans revealed that the knock was not as bad as first predicted.

Rodriguez is set to sit out of Colombia's game against Paraguay on October 7 but, providing the treatment works, could be set to play just four days later.

Despite appearing to fall out of favour under Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane last term, Rodriguez has featured more regularly for his current employers in 2016/17, making seven appearances as well as registering one goal and three assists in that time.
