Columbus Crew defender Jonathan Mensah insists ex-Barcelona forward David Villa is difficult play against

Columbus Crew defender Jonathan Mensah has revealed he struggled to deal with David Villa in the MLS last season and describes the New York City forward as one of the best strikers in the World. 

Jonathan Mensah who ended a good debut MLS season by helping Columbus Crew reach the finals of the Eastern Conference, made 31 appearances in all competitions, 25 in the MLS and making 24 starts.

Having joined from Anzhi Makachkala in Russia, the Ghanaian took time to settle but after stumbling in the beginning he settled later.

Among the numerous strikers he played against in the Major League Soccer, Jonathan Mensah insists ex-Barcelona and Spain striker David Villa was the difficult to play against.

“That guy (David Villa) is something else, Villa tries to catch me on with his pace and I also try to stop him with my power,” he said on TV3's warm up show.

“He is an amazing player and is difficult playing against him, he is very quick and got skill and very sharp as well," he added.

Jonathan Mensah was full of praise for the 36 year old, who scored 22 MLS goals last season, describing Villa as one of the best striker's in the world.

“For me I think he is one of the best strikers in the World and he is doing amazing in the MLS.”
