Competition for places is making me a better player - Columbus Crew forward David Accam

Ghanaian forward David Accam says competition for places at Columbus Crew has helped improved his game after scoring for the side in their 2-2 draw against Toronto FC.

The 28-year-old joined the MLS side from Philadelphia Union in the transfer window in May.

Accam has been impressive for Crew after bagging his second goal in his 7th appearance in the MLS as the Black and Gold lads were held in a four-goal thriller on Saturday.

"There is a lot of competition in the team, especially in the wing position," he said as reported by his club's official website.

"We have a lot of good players and everyone is capable of starting and doing well, so for me, it’s about being ready to make an impact any time I get a chance.

"Yeah for sure [competition in midfield has helped me become a better player] because you know someone can take your position so any chance you get, you have to take advantage.

"That’s what I try to do every time and I know most of the guys to do the same."

Accam is one of three Ghana internationals currently plying their trade for Colombus Crew, the others being Jonathan Mensah and Harrison Afful.
