Michael Essien's two homes in East Legon and Trassaco are set to go under the hammer, according to recent reports.

The Deputy Sheriff of the High Court (Commercial Division) ordered the sale of Essien's properties on June 12, 2024.

The houses are located at House Number 9, Stephen Quarshie Crescent, East Legon, and House Number 204/205, Trassaco (Phase 2) Adjiringano, both in Accra.

An anonymous auctioneer disclosed that one of the properties is expected to fetch between $20 million and $30 million.

Essien's illustrious football career began at Bastia in France and continued at Olympique Lyonnais before he gained prominence at Chelsea, becoming one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League.

His tenure at Chelsea was marked by numerous achievements, including Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League trophy.

He later played for renowned clubs such as Real Madrid and AC Milan, earning global admiration for his midfield prowess.

Despite his successful football career, Essien has faced financial challenges since retiring from the sport, as evidenced by the sale of his properties.

This situation highlights the financial pressures many Ghanaian and African footballers encounter post-retirement, despite their substantial earnings during their playing days.
