English-born striker of Ghanaian descent, Danny Welbeck has donated food and relief items to the people of Nkawiepanin in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality to support them through the Coronavirus (COVID-19) storm.

Ghana has not been left out of what has been described as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). As of Saturday, April 11, 2020, there have been 408 confirmed cases of the disease with 8 deaths as well.

As part of efforts by the government to stop the spread of the Coronavirus, it has put the Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi, and Tema Metropolis under partial lockdown.

With movement and businesses restricted, people’s income has been locked with many pleading for support.

In a bid to help people from his hometown, Danny Welbeck who grew up in England has made a donation of food items and relief items to the tune of GHC 70,000.

His Aunty Charlotte Adwoa Tumutuom who presented the items to the traditional chiefs of the benefiting communities said: “Danny has been very concerned about how his people would survive these trying times; though he has never lived here, he has a great affection for the people of Ghana, so he felt it prudent to offer some help in the very small way that he can to support the government’s efforts in these times”.

Danny Welbeck, now with English Premier League side Watford, also donated PPEs to the Nkawie Government Hospital to protect the health officials in their fight against the Covid-19.
