Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on Barcelona and Brazil star Neymar, with rumours of a potential £180m bid on the horizon.

According to theDaily Record, the club have asked to be kept informed of Neymar's plans for the future.

The reported fee would be more than double the amount that United spent on current worldrecord signing Paul Pogba - but they are expected to be unfazed by the mammoth fee, and happy to flex their financial muscle once again.

With some ofthe Red Devils' forwardsbeginning to age - the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney are now in their 30s - Jose Mourinho is said to be keen to refresh his attackingoptions.

Neymar only signed a new contract with the Catalan giants last month, but sources close to the player have described the deal as a 'sticking plaster' over a long standing conflict between the player and his club. The release clause in the new deal was also only marginally increased from what it was before.

The situation surrounding Neymar's extraction from third party ownership in order to join Barcelona, as well as accusations of tax evasion from the player, could also have complicated his position at the club.

Spain's public prosecutor last week called for the 24-year-oldto be given a two-year prison sentence over alleged corruption in his move from Santos.

Neymar's desire to be the sole talisman may also pave the way for clubs to make a move. He has, at times, been overshadowed by Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez alongside him, and is arguably the least popular of the three among the Camp Nou supporters.

United would face competition from other European heavyweights such as Paris Saint-Germain if they were to make an approach for Neymar.
