Daily Fantasy Analysis: Sadio Mane vs Gylfi Sigurdsson - Head to Head in Gameweek 28

Published on: 09 March 2017

It's a tricky ol'week for fantasy football, isn't it?

Those of you out there with season-long teams are cursing the dearth of Premier League fixtures this weekend - rather than a full slate of 10 games, the FA Cup means there are...four. Just the four.

That means that when you're looking to pick a team inYahoo Daily Fantasythis week, there's not much room for error. If you build your team around the wrong big-money man, you're in big trouble - and there are two midfielders who stand out...

Form

Boy, did Liverpool miss Sadio Mane when he was away at the Africa Cup of Nations. The Senegal man has come back with a bang since his time representing his country though, averaging 11.07 points in his last five games, with three goals in his last three games.

That, though, isn't a patch on Iceman Gylfi Sigurdsson, whose incredible form in attempting to keep Swansea afloat has seen him average 15.1 points per game over the last five weeks - only dropping below 10 once.

When you're looking for a player to build your squad around, you're looking for someone who's going to be consistent. Mane's highs might be high, but his lows are low - only twice in the last five weeks has he outscored Sigurdsson's lowest weekly score. Point to Gylfi.

Opposition

Shout it from the rooftops - picking a player who'sat home to Burnley is like playing fantasy football in easy mode. It worked wonders for Fernando Llorente last week (24.55 points, if you're curious), and this week it's Mane's turn.

The Clarets have conceded an average of two goals a game over their last six away from home - which makes them a much more appealing proposition than Swansea's opponents Hull, who have conceded just two goals in three home games since Marco Silva took over the club in January.

Those games haven't necessarily been easy ones for the Tigers either, holding Premier League top scorers Liverpool and free-scoring Bournemouth to just one goal between them. If you look at matchups, Mane's value gets a serious boost.

Value

There's not a massive gap between the pair, but Sigurdsson is definitely the slightly more budget-conscious option, costing £23 out of your £200 budget rather than Mane's £28 - which makes him the week's most expensive player in any position.

Mane certainly has potential to go big against Burnley, but his up and down form coupled with Liverpool's well-publicised struggles against smaller teams make it tricky to shell out absolute top dollar for him. Choose Gylfi. Choose reliability.
